Salary Details : UPSC NDA Recruitment 2026

a) Fixed Stipend for Cadet Training:-
  • Stipend to male/female Cadets during the entire duration of training in Service academies i.e. during training period at IMA : Rs 56,100/-p.m.* (Starting pay in Level 10)

Qualification : UPSC NDA Recruitment 2026

1. Army Wing of National Defence Academy
  • 12th Class pass of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination conducted by a State Education Board or a University.
2. Air Force and Naval Wings of National Defence Academy and for the 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme at the Indian Naval Academy
  • 12th Class pass with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent conducted by a State Education Board or a University.
Candidates who are appearing in the 12th Class under the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination can also apply for this examination.

Selection Process : UPSC NDA Recruitment 2026

Stage 1: Written Examination (Objective Type)

Candidates must first clear the offline pen-and-paper written test. It consists of two papers held on the same day:

Paper 1: Mathematics (Code 01)
  • Time: 2½ Hours
  • Maximum Marks: 300 Marks
Paper 2: General Ability Test / GAT (Code 02) * Time: 2½ Hours
  • Maximum Marks: 600 Marks (Divided into Part A: English and Part B: General Knowledge)
Total Written Marks: 900 Marks

Note: There is a penalty (Negative Marking) of 0.33 marks for every wrong answer.

Stage 2: SSB Test / Interview

Candidates who clear the minimum qualifying cutoff marks in the written exam will receive an invitation to appear before a Services Selection Board (SSB) for a intelligence and personality test.

Total SSB Marks: 900 Marks

The SSB interview process takes place over 5 days and is divided into two distinct phases:
  • Stage I: Comprises Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) tests and Picture Perception & Description Test (PP&DT). Candidates who fail Stage I are sent back on the first day.
  • Stage II: Comprises Interviews, Group Testing Officer (GTO) Tasks, Psychological Tests, and the Conference.
For Air Force Flying Branch aspirants: Candidates must additionally pass the Computerised Pilot Selection System (CPSS) test.

Stage 3: Medical Examination
  • Candidates recommended by the SSB will undergo a rigorous medical examination by a Board of Service Medical Officers to ensure they meet the strict physical and medical standards required for military training.
Stage 4: Final Merit List
  • The final selection list is issued separately for male and female candidates. It is compiled by combining the Marks of the Written Examination + Marks of the SSB Interview. Admission to the Army, Navy, Air Force wings of the NDA, or the 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme of the Naval Academy is granted strictly in order of merit, subject to medical fitness and operational vacancies.

2. What is the eligibility criteria regarding age limits and marital status?
  • Age Limit: Only candidates born not earlier than January 1, 2008, and not later than January 1, 2011, are eligible to apply.
  • Marital Status: Candidates must be unmarried (both male and female). They must also undertake not to marry during their training period, or they will be discharged and required to refund all training expenditures.
3. What are the educational qualifications required for different wings?
  • For the Army Wing of NDA: A pass in the 12th Class of the 10+2 pattern of school education or equivalent.
  • For the Air Force Wing, Naval Wing of NDA, and 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme at INA: A pass in the 12th Class with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) of the 10+2 pattern or equivalent. (Note: Candidates appearing in the 12th class exam can also apply provisionally, but 11th-class students are not eligible).
4. Is there an application fee, and who is exempted from paying it?
  • The standard application fee is ₹100/- (Rupees one hundred only).
  • Fee Exemption: All Female candidates, SC/ST candidates, and Wards of JCOs/NCOs/ORs studying in Military or Sainik Schools are completely exempted from paying the fee. No exemption is available for OBC or EWS candidates.
5. What is the structure of the selection process and exam pattern?

The selection process consists of two primary stages followed by a medical check-up:

Stage 1: Written Examination (900 Marks): Two objective-type papers conducted via pen-and-paper mode on the same day:
  • Mathematics: 2½ Hours (300 Marks)
  • General Ability Test (GAT): 2½ Hours (600 Marks)
  • Negative Marking: There is a penalty of 0.33 marks for every wrong answer.
